Upcoming November Bond Vote & the Chili Cookoff This Weekend!

To Malibu Parents and Community Members,

Hey there and welcome back to our 2018-2019 school year!

You’re getting this newsletter as a parent of a Malibu student or concerned friend.

Just as a reminder, we are AMPS – the Advocates for Malibu Public Schools.

We advocate for a quality education in Malibu and are the primary organization that has been pushing for a Malibu Unified School District. After all of these years, we are still going strong and very grateful to folks like Craig Foster, Karen Farrer and all of those who pioneered our effort.

You’ll be getting a regular newsletter like this to keep you up-to-date on what is going on with AMPS, great events you can attend and how you can help.

We hope to see you this fall as we sponsor a series of events to help our kids’ education.

Stay tuned!

Warmly,

     Kathryn Alice,
     President AMPS

p.s. Hope to see you on Friday, August 31stat the Malibu Chili Cookoff. That’s local’s night where we’ll have a booth. Do come by and say “hello”!

UPCOMING NOVEMBER BOND VOTE – WE NEED YOUR HELP!

AMPS biggest push this fall will be to get the Malibu School Bond – Measure M -- passed in the coming November election. This is the first bond in which monies go straight into Malibu schools only.

We’ve got so much construction going on now -- major changes needed to clean MHS from PCBs and update classrooms-- that it is clear funding via Measure M has to be first on our list – doing what is needed to finish the work underway and build and improve the classes for an excellent forward-looking future.

When you vote YES on Measure M on our November ballot, 100% of funds will stay in Malibu, none can be taken from the State or used for anything out of our city. This is the first time this is the case with a school bond including Malibu.

SCHOOL SEPARATION

We are 80% there in this process of gaining our own Malibu Unified School District and separating from Santa Monica. After all of these years of pushing, we’ve gotten over the hump. But there is still work to be done to reach this goal, and we’re committed to staying the course.
