Excellent Schools Through Local Control
AMPS Leadership in the Coalition of Parent Groups to Keep Our Kids and Teachers Safe
AMPS is active in the coalition of parent groups, who requested that the School Board:
  1. Relocate our Middle School classes
  2. Educate the community about the facts of the incidents arising to the environmental health issues at Malibu High School and Middle School
  3. Communicate with our families by appointing a liaison, who would work with the School Board to relay what is being done to address the issues.
A copy of the letter, which was sent to the SMMUSD School Board on behalf of AMPS, and other parent led groups is attached here.

Our parent leadership has been swift in banding together and using our strong voices to to promote our concerns.  Thus, the SMMUSD School Board has addressed the three points above, and have taken the necessary actions, to ensure the safety of our students, teachers, and faculty.

As AMPS moves forward in our effort to create an independent school district, the safety of our kids, teachers, staff, and our facilities are on the top of our agenda. We will continue to be a strong, and active voice, to ensure the safety of our schools, and promote the health of the Malibu community.

In Memory of Mark and Lucas Benjamin
A tragedy shook the Malibu community last week, as Mark Benjamin and his son Lucas were lost in a horrible plane crash.

Mark Benjamin was the CEO and President of Morley Construction, and he was strongly committed to his children and to the local Malibu education community. He was very involved and contributed a lot to Malibu education programs, including the Malibu Foundation for Youth and Families, Malibu Little League, MHS Baseball, and the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu.

Most importantly, Mark Benjamin was instrumental in the creation of Malibu High School and worked on many SMMUSD facility improvement projects.  In addition, he  worked closely with SMMUSD Administration and Board of Education, over the course of many years.

He was a tremendous asset to the school district and will forever be remembered for all his passion, hard work, kind demeanor, and generosity.

Mark and his son Lucas, will be missed dearly!  We send out our prayers and condolences to his family and friends.
